Our journey began in August 2018 as a community initiative rooted in collective action. In June 2023, we formally established Akar Cahaya Indonesia to deepen and sustain this work.
We focus on village empowerment across Indonesia, as a process of reclaiming dignity, knowledge, and agency from within. We believe villages are not peripheral spaces to be modernised; they are living centers of knowledge, culture, and resilience: the roots of our collective civilization.
Through liberatory education and community-led action, we work alongside women and youth to strengthen local economies, advance gender justice, revitalize food and health systems, and nurture ecological balance. Today, our work unfolds through four interconnected programs grounded in local knowledge and community leadership.
